Philadelphia Food and Drink

Philadelphia FoodPhiladelphia is known for some great food especially the famous Philly cheesesteaks that can be found in numerous of places around the city. For those who don’t know what a Philly cheesesteak is, it consists of thinly sliced pieces of steak, any of your favorite condiments and sides, and then topped with cheese – all stuffed in a long roll. Italian hoagie is also a popular food item here as it is simply meat, cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion and special oil sauce served on a long roll. It is referred to as subs, or heroes elsewhere but nothing beats one while sightseeing in Philadelphia.

The soft pretzels are a great to-go snack, especially while walking around and enjoying the city views especially on the famous Market Street. This tasty and salty treat is often dipped in mustard or cheese.  According to Wikipedia, Pennsylvania creates 80% of the of the country’s pretzels resulting in Pennsylvanians eating twelve times as much pretzels than the average American in a year.

Did you know
that Peeps, the sugar candy, which are served especially around Easter originated in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania? It has since been the favorite non chocolate candy during Easter for over ten years.

The Philadelphia’s 9th street Italian market is one of the oldest and largest working outdoor markets in the United States with over 100 merchants providing a huge variety of products. It has been around for 100 years and has not changed dramatically from its roots.
