Robert Morris

Born in Liverpool, England, Robert came to Philadelphia via Maryland in the late 1740s.  A signer of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation and United States Constitution, Robert became very wealthy, and his house, the largest in the city, became the house of the first President of the United States, George Washington. But Robert became bankrupt and spent time in debtor’s prison.  His statute stands proudly behind the Second Bank of the United States. Pay tribute during your Philadelphia day trip.
